Willow

Willow came to us from a kill pen, her spirit nearly broken. She was completely shut down, a shadow of the horse she once was, with eyes that spoke of deep pain and abandonment. We took her in, not knowing she was pregnant, and committed ourselves to giving her the love, care, and patience she so desperately needed.

At first, Willow kept to herself, wary of any touch or gesture of kindness. But slowly, as the days turned into weeks, she began to trust us. Little by little, her eyes regained a spark, and she started to emerge from her shell. Seven months later, the moment we had been unknowingly preparing for arrived—Willow gave birth to a beautiful colt, whom we named George.

Motherhood brought out a side of Willow we had never seen before. She became the most loving and attentive mom, her instincts guiding her to care for George with a tenderness that was a joy to witness. In caring for her baby, Willow seemed to heal the deepest parts of herself. She began to seek us out, nudging us gently, and her favorite thing quickly became having her ears scratched—a sign of the trust and bond that had finally blossomed between us.

Willow’s journey is one of incredible resilience and the healing power of love. She went from being a broken, forgotten horse to a proud, loving mother who found her way back to joy. Every time she nudges us for attention, it’s a reminder that with patience and kindness, even the most broken spirits can find their way home.
